Michael Louis Minns

Michael was licensed by the Texas Supreme Court on June 13, 1977, and on the following Monday tried his first case as a licensed lawyer.  Following that case, he went seven years without a professional defeat.  He has over 30 admissions in Federal and State jurisdictions across the continental United States and appeared in courtrooms in more than 30 states, territories and countries.

Before practicing law Minns won the Houston Golden Gloves Championship and was a high school English teacher.

His trial and appellate work spans the country from Alaska and Hawaii to Texas, Arkansas and New York.  His cases have appeared in periodicals such as the New York Times,  Reader's Digest, Houston Post, Houston Chronicle, San Antonio Light, Arkansas Democrat, Arkansas Gazette, Kerville Mountain Sun, Memphis Commercial Appeal, People's Magazine, and The U.S. Observer.

Minns has appeared as a guest on numerous television shows, including Geraldo, CNN, CBS, NBC, and The Today Show. Minns has been asked to speak about taxes, the law, and suing lawyers.

Minns maintains a broad general law practice covering a large and varied spectrum, with a large emphasis of his professional experience as a criminal tax defense lawyer, and in suing bad lawyers for legal misconduct in malpractice suits.  He has handled criminal law cases from misdemeanors to capital murders.

Michael currently lives on a Texas farm with his wife Michelle, a farmer.  She raises cows, trees and chickens as well as runs a rescue sanctuary for animals.  They have three children, six grandchildren, and a ton of animals.

Rain Levy Minns

Rain’s litigation experience ranges from international arbitration in Hong Kong to Native American courts to jury trials in the United States.

Prior to joining her father, Rain had practiced for many years.

After law school, Rain clerked for Chief Judge George P. Kazen in the Southern District of Texas.  She then became an Assistant Attorney General for the State of Texas, where she was recognized for her outstanding work.  Rain first-chaired and obtained favorable trial and appellate verdicts in all of her cases, including the highest arbitration award in the history of her division.

Rain then spent a few years at a large law firm working on bet-the-company litigation, where any bad outcome could have destroyed the companies.

Rain graduated magna cum laude from Dartmouth College, where she won the award for outstanding academic achievement for a Native American.  She received her Juris Doctorate from Cornell University Law School in 2001, where she won academic awards and was President of the Public Interest Law Union.  Rain also practiced law for the Ho-Chunk Nation’s Department of Justice before the Ho-Chunk Trial and Supreme Courts.  Rain was also an extern to Judge Thomas McAvoy in the Northern District of New York.

Her other relevant experience includes interning at the United States Trade Department on international taxation issues and for the D.C. Federal Circuit.

Rain Minns lives in Austin, Texas, with her husband (David), three children (Aria, Solomon, and Zoe), and Rottweiler (Lily).

Ashley Blair Arnett

Ashley completed her undergraduate degree with a major in Political Science in three years graduating with honors from Lamar University in Beaumont, Texas.  In 2004, she worked at the Minns firm as a legal assistant.  As a third year law student, she participated in the December 2007 acquittal of the Morans in Seattle, Washington.  Ashley graduated from St. Mary's Law School on May 17, 2008 and returned to the firm on August 4.  Ashley also worked with Rain and Michael in winning a $150,000.00 legal malpractice judgment against former State Representative Michael Martin in August 2009.
