The Truth

The U.S. tax code is arbitrary, highly politicized, confusing and unfair. Ambiguities are often used by the government to imprison innocent citizens and bully tactics are often used to intimidate witnesses into exaggerations and worse, lies. It is the sworn duty of the American Jury to stand up and protect the accused citizen, to presume innocence, and guard our sacred separation of powers.

While there are many decent, honorable men and women using their legal skills to protect the Bill of Rights, the Constitution, and equality of access to justice under the law, there are also, unfortunately, unethical scoundrels who will stop at nothing to ruin the lives of victims and who laugh when government officials get out of control, like the McCarthy attacks on civil rights, the internment of Japanese Americans during WWII, the former government sponsored institution of slavery, the testing of chemicals on Veterans without their knowledge, the testing of disease on Tuskegee African Americans without their permission, the Watergate scandal, the illegal incarceration of Americans expressing Free Speech ideas, whether on the right wing or left wing. The American Eagle needs two wings to fly.

It is the highest calling of the legal profession when lawyers stand between the government, or corrupt business practices, or corrupt lawyers, and take a stand.

It is the highest calling of the citizen when he or she has the courage to stand up for the presumption of innocence and protect the accused citizen from the power and abuse of the government.

This is particularly true when Judges disregard their constitutional responsibilities and the separation or powers, and assist the government by showing prejudice against the accused or preventing the jury from hearing what they need to hear to make a judgment. When the citizen/juror abandons his or her responsibility and rather than make an independent decision tries to decide what the Judge thinks – that citizen has deprived the accused of a jury trial.

The genius of the jury system embedded in the constitution by Jefferson and the other founders was based on a distrust of all things government.

When citizens give the benefit of a doubt to the government, or to government actors, they ignore the Bill of Rights and the Constitution.

Had jurors ignored their responsibility to be independent William Penn would have gone to jail, and there would be no Pennsylvania today. The government and the Judge demanded a conviction. The jury said “NO.”

The legal profession has lawyers who stand up for the Bill of Rights, fight the good fight for justice, and don't punch below the belt. It also has lawyers who rob widows, rape plunder and steal, delight in causing mortal anguish, filling jail cells with the weak and often innocent, and sell skills and services they don't have to unsophisticated victims. For the right case, the right cause, the right client, the firm has sued some of the most powerful lawyer criminals in America. The various BAR Associations often side with powerful corporate lawyers and give grief to good lawyers and a pass to the most unethical. Minns has gotten several of these villains dishonored and indicted.
